WINTER SCHOLAR ATHLETE AWARD WINNERS

   The Greater Omaha Sports Committee is proud to announce the 2009/2010 Winter Scholar Athlete Award Winners sponsored by Regal Awards. Nine High School Seniors, Six boys, three girls, representing seven different area High Schools were honored for not only their contributions on the field but their academic accomplishments in the class room. Students of this caliber are “The Cream of the Crop” says Jo Dusatko (Greater Omaha Sports Committee sub-committee chair), “it goes with out saying these kids are why we love to coach and teach. It was a special afternoon as Brenda Hampton (Iowa Western Community College - Athletic Director) was able to put their accomplishments into perspective. This Year’s recipients’ are for Swimming ~ Kaitlin Smits - Bellevue East High School ~ Autumn Baldwin - Marian High School ~ Matt Franco - Creighton Prep High School, Basketball ~ Mike Dentlinger - Millard North High School ~ Caleb Steffensmeier - Creighton Prep High School ~ Vicky McIntyre - Marian High School, and Wrestling ~ Andrew Martin - Elkhorn High School ~ Jake Miller - Millard South High School ~ Andrew Hollins - Skutt Catholic High School.

Scholar-athletes receive honors

      All-Metro Conference basketball players Vicky McIntyre of Omaha Marian, Caleb Steffensmeier of Omaha Creighton Prep and Mike Dentlinger of Millard North were among those receiving winter sports scholar-athlete awards from the Greater Omaha Sports Committee.


      Also honored were Kaitlin Smits of Bellevue East and Autumn Baldwin of Marian for girls swimming, Matt Franco of Prep for boys swimming and Jake Miller of Millard South, Andrew Martin of Elkhorn and Andrew Hollins of Omaha Skutt for wrestling.

     For more than fifteen years the Greater Omaha Sports Committee has honored the Outstanding Scholar Athlete of that particular Sport and for the Year in the Omaha Metro Area. These students are judged not only for their accomplishments on the field but for their scholastic achievements in the class room. This Fall’s recipients were Outstanding and many participated in other Varsity Sports. Because, these recipients cannot be nominated in another Sport they will not be eligible to win in another Sport. However, many of them will be entered into the 2009/2010 Most Outstanding Scholar Athlete awarded in June to One Boy and Girl.
