Slater Barr Announced as Luncheon Keynote Speaker

Slater Barr, President of the Sioux Falls Development Foundation will be the Keynote Speaker for the Opening Luncheon for the Sioux Falls Products Show for Business & Industry on Wednesday, October 28 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. The luncheon will begin at 11:45 am with the Products Show opening at 1:00 p.m. The luncheon is open to all exhibitors, attendees, and the public. Cost is only $15.00. Slater joined the Sioux Falls Development Foundation in August of 2008 as President.Prior to that, he was the CEO of Carroll Tomorrow in Carrollton, Georgia for seven years. Slater pursues a holistic approach to economic development, incorporating strategies ranging from conventional recruitment to entrepreneurship, from industrial park development to farmland preservation.He has worked in the area of economic and community development since 1990 in North Carolina, Mississippi, and Georgia, in addition to South Dakota. A seasoned professional, Slater is a Certified Economic Developer and has the distinction of passing all three portions of the CEcD exam in one attempt, a feat accomplished by less than 20 percent of all candidates.He is a graduate of Mississippi State University with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering and of the prestigious Advanced Management Development Program in Real Estate from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.He has also earned a Certificate in Real Estate Development from the Urban Land Institute.        Slater Barr In addition to being a Certified Economic Developer, he is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the International Economic Development Council, the National Business Incubation Association and a former member of the Georgia Economic Developers Association and the West Central Georgia Workforce Investment Board. Slater and his wife Kimi have five children ranging in age from 5 to 16.
