As one of the National Football Foundation’s longest standing and formerly one of the largest chapters, the Nebraska Chapter has been able to both uphold the ideals set forth by the Foundation and represent the Cornhusker state majority. The chapter flourished under the past leadership of Irv Veitzer, the 2001 NFF Chapter Leadership Award Honoree for the Midwest Region and John Payne from Kearney.

“If you love the game of football, this is a great way of supporting the game,” said Veitzer. “You can have a good feeling about supporting a great cause.”  Payne said football is a great sport for our youth to learn the basic principles in life with teamwork, character, spirit, and being a good person.

Current President Lou Kully leads the Board and the membership to support the great game of football and our Annual College Football Nebraska Hall of Fame Program.

The Nebraska Chapter formerly had a Scholar-Athlete Banquet to honor outstanding high school student-athletes for success on the gridiron and in school.  The program used to distribute approximately $6,000 in scholarship funds to high school recipients each year.  The scholarship and compliance issues for that program changed and did not continue.  The Nebraska Chapter works with the Greater omaha Sports Committee to nominate our high school football scholar athletes for the national awards.  The Nebraska Chapter also annually inducts 7-10 players, whom have had celebrated college careers, into its Nebraska Hall of Fame. These athletes were All-America or All-Conference selections in college.

The Nebraska Chapter remains a strong supporter of the college and university football programs in the state, including the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  The chapter also strongly supports youth and high school football.  The chapter displays a commitment to the development of America’s young people through all levels of amateur football.

The National Football Foundation and the College Football Hall of Fame and the Nebraska Chapter support football at all levels.  Safety is important at all levels.  Click below on Football Matters to learn more about Football, Why it is important, Safety, and all of the great aspects and growth of football!
